Painting For Others

Digging through old photos, it was surprising to see all the paintings I had the pleasure of giving to others, either commissioned or gifted.  Over the next few weeks, I'll put more of them up here and free up cramped camera space.  Here are a few pet portraits.  It's no secret that my favorite part of painting an animal is the eyes.  It's so much more than iris color, black pupil, and white light reflections.  You might be surprised just how many different colors and shades I have to use.   Sometimes, it's just the matter of one teensy speck of color in that exact spot that makes all the difference.   In such a tiny space, a world of emotions, expressions, and intentions can be observed.   They say the eyes are the window to the soul.  I have to agree.

  1. These are really lovely. I have to say, you really do have a talent for capturing the essence of an animal.

  3. Thanks, Lisa. :)

Angie, I do believe Holly was my very first pet portrait. Or was it Belle? Record keeping is not one of my strengths.
